A 41-year-old man from Mississauga is facing multiple charges after allegedly leading police on a brief pursuit in Ontario’s cottage country late Tuesday night, which ended in a crash.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver around 11:30 p.m. in Grey Highlands, located roughly 45 kilometres southwest of Collingwood.
Police said a black Dodge Ram pickup truck was reported to be “driving erratically and swerving between lanes” near Grey Road 4 and Concession 2.
Officers later located a vehicle matching the description and attempted to stop it. However, police say the driver failed to pull over and fled, eventually crashing the truck.
The driver—who was alone in the vehicle—sustained minor injuries and was arrested at the scene.
Grey Road 4 was closed between Highway 10 and West Back Line for several hours during the investigation.
The Mississauga man is now facing several charges, including:
Three counts of failing to comply with a release order
Flight from a peace officer
Dangerous operation of a vehicle
Two counts of operating while prohibited
Four counts of driving while under suspension
He is scheduled for a bail hearing on Wednesday.
The investigation is ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 1-888-310-1122 or to reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
