A woman from Mississauga is facing multiple charges after a vehicle traveling at more than twice the speed limit fled from police in an Ontario vacation town on Sunday evening.
The car later crashed not far from where officers first spotted it around 7 p.m. on Highway 26 near Wards Road in The Blue Mountains, about 75 kilometres west of Barrie.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Collingwood/The Blue Mountains, a passenger in the vehicle was transported to hospital with minor injuries. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Police said an officer conducting radar enforcement observed a black Ford Mustang heading westbound on Highway 26 “at an extremely high rate of speed.” It was later determined the car was traveling at more than double the posted speed limit.
According to a news release issued Monday, the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but it sped away.
“A short time later, police were called to a single-vehicle collision involving the same car,” the OPP said.
A 21-year-old woman from Mississauga has been charged with:
Flight from a peace officer
Dangerous operation of a vehicle
Driving without a licence
Speeding (1–49 km/h over the posted limit)
She is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on July 10.
