Vehicle Thefts Surge Again in Mississauga and Brampton with Over 300 Cases Reported in Past Month
A new month has brought another rise in vehicle thefts across Mississauga and Brampton, with over 300 incidents reported to police in the last 31 days.
Between July 23 and August 23, Peel Regional Police recorded a total of 367 vehicle thefts — 196 in Mississauga and 171 in Brampton.
As of Saturday, 11 cases have been solved, while 311 remain under investigation and 45 have been classified as unsolved. The breakdown of stolen vehicles includes 252 cars, 23 motorcycles, 75 trucks, and 17 categorized as “other.”
Some streets have emerged as hotspots for theft:
Courtney Park Drive: 8 incidents
Dixie Road: 11 incidents
Great Lakes Drive: 12 incidents
These trends highlight that certain areas are more prone to vehicle theft, prompting local residents to take additional safety measures.
Peel Police Offer Auto Theft Prevention Tips:
Use a locked garage whenever possible, as most vehicles were stolen from driveways.
Install a steering wheel lock, which serves as both a physical and visible deterrent.
Secure the data port with a locking device, available online, to prevent thieves from reprogramming vehicle keys.
Invest in a high-quality video surveillance system. Ensure cameras are correctly positioned, work in both day and night conditions, and that you’re familiar with how to review footage quickly if needed.
