Travellers are being warned about potential flight delays to and from Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga on Monday due to staffing shortages at one of New York City’s major airports.
Pearson Airport officials shared on social media that problems at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey could affect flights heading to or arriving from that location.
“Travellers heading to/from Newark Airport, please be aware,” Pearson posted on X Monday morning.
Earlier that day, Newark Airport also issued a warning, noting that a “ground delay program” was in place due to staffing shortages at the Federal Aviation Administration. This program temporarily holds departing flights to manage traffic flow.
Newark Liberty, one of the busiest airports in the U.S., has recently faced a series of challenges including staffing issues and technical disruptions. These problems are raising concerns about continued delays as the peak summer travel season approaches.
On Friday, a radar outage affected air traffic control at Newark, followed by another equipment-related issue on Sunday, according to U.S. aviation authorities.
Travellers are advised to check directly with their airlines for the latest updates on flight status.
